Willie James Mercy, born on June 24, 1940, in Pender County, NC, departed this life on August 13, 2026, at Northchase Nursing & Rehabilitation. Willie leaves behind a remarkable legacy of strength, dedication, and mastery in every aspect of his life.

Throughout his 86 years, Willie demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. He was the master of any skill he put his mind to, a quality that defined his approach to both work and leisure. Whether pursuing new tasks or honing lifelong passions, Willie consistently sought perfection, earning the admiration and respect of all who knew him.

A special part of Willie’s life was spent by the water, finding peace and joy in fishing. The tranquility of those quiet mornings by the shore mirrored Willie’s calm and steady presence, while the patience he exhibited in the practice was reflective of the wisdom he shared with family and friends.

Willie is remembered with deep love and affection by his children: Yulanda Alcindor, Sophia Hawes, William Mercy, Sabrina Mercy, Steven Mercy, Deborah Herndon, and Annie Chester. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Willie’s life at the Memorial Service, which will be held at 1:00 PM on August 22, 2026, at Burgaw Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 1596 U.S. 117, Burgaw, NC 28425.
