Obituary for Veatrice DeVane Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Veatrice Smith, age 98, of Ivanhoe, NC, who gained her wings on February 3, 2025, to join her late husband of 71 years, Mr. James Edward Smith.

Veatrice was a cherished mother to her daughters, Mary (David) Anderson of Mitcheville, MD, Kinny Newkirk of Upper Marlboro, MD. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will be remembered by all who knew her.

A Celebration of her remarkable life will be held at Royal Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 7660 Ivanhoe Road, Ivanhoe, NC 28447, on February 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Veatrice's final resting place will be at Jumping Run Cemetery in Ivanhoe, NC, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

A Public family gathering Saturday February 15, 2025, at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, 810 W Wilmington Street, Burgaw, NC 28425 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM.

Veatrice's grace, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
