Shirley G. McCree, born Shirley Jones, passed away on August 30, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was born on September 19, 1936, in Florence County, South Carolina, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, fellowship, and simple everyday joys.

Mrs. McCree was a woman who delighted in bringing people together. She loved hosting family and friends, creating a welcoming spirit wherever she was. She found happiness in traveling, and she enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball. Among the quiet pleasures that reflected her gentle nature was her love of watering her flowers, a small but meaningful expression of the care she extended to the world around her.

Her faith was an important and steady part of her life. She was a longtime member of First Baptist of Lincoln Garden in New Jersey, and after retirement she joined First Baptist of Fairfield in Alabama. She was also an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall, reflecting her dedication to service, community, and fellowship.

Of all the blessings in her life, her grandkids were her proudest accomplishment and deepest joy. They stood at the center of her heart and were a lasting source of pride and love.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on September 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Snowhill Missionary Baptist Church, 581 Trestle Road, Ivanhoe, North Carolina 28447. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Jumping Run Cemetery in Ivanhoe, North Carolina.

Shirley G. McCree will be remembered with love for her warmth, her hospitality, her faith, and the joy she took in those she loved most. Her memory will remain a cherished blessing to all who knew her.
