With hearts both heavy in loss and full of gratitude for memories cherished, we announce the passing of Robert Lee Carr on July 3, 2026, in Lockport, NY. Born June 21, 1946, in Pender County, Robert’s journey through life was marked by profound devotion to family, steadfast work, and an infectious zest for living.
Robert was a loving father and a true family man. Those fortunate enough to know him recall his warmth, unwavering spirit, and the special light he brought to every gathering. His children and grandchildren were the center of his universe, and he never missed an opportunity to encourage, support, or celebrate their joys.
A proud retiree of General Motors, Robert dedicated 35 years to his work, forging bonds with colleagues and setting an example of diligence, loyalty, and hard-earned achievement. He also found fulfillment and joy in entrepreneurship, running the beloved bar and restaurant “BigFella.” It wasn’t just a business; it was another home a place where laughter, friendship, and music flowed as easily as conversation.
Robert’s legacy includes honorable service to his country as a member of the US Army, a chapter of his story that filled his family with pride and exemplified his character steady, courageous, and selfless.
When he wasn’t working or caring for his loved ones, Robert found pure happiness in basketball he was both a devoted New York Knicks and Boston Celtics fan. Music and dancing were threads woven throughout his life, and his enthusiasm was contagious to all around him. The youthful spark that never faded led him to get a tattoo at age 70, proving that spirit truly knows no age.
He transformed challenges into opportunities. In one of his most cherished memories, Robert took a chance trip to New York with a friend for a job interview, and they both walked away not just with jobs but with new lives ahead of them emblematic of his bold, optimistic approach to every endeavor.
Robert’s love for his family lives on through his daughter Jade Carr, his granddaughter River Jordan Carr, his grandson Jeremy Law, his brother Clarence Carr, Jr., and his sister Beverly Carr. His nephew Te’Shawn Tyrell, as well as Tony Borden Sr. and Tony Borden Jr., also mourn his passing but carry forward his spirit. He is now reunited in peace with his beloved wife JoAnn McCall Carr and their son Robert Jeffery Carr.
The celebration of Robert’s life will take place at Island Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 325 Harrison Creek Rd, Rocky Point, NC 28457. There will be a viewing on July 16, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 1:00 pm. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Island Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, returning home to the community and the land that shaped his earliest days.
Robert Lee Carr’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, hard work, and unyielding optimism. Those who knew him will remember a man who gave his all to family and friends, who danced through good times and faced trials with quiet grace. Though he has departed from our sight, the light of his kindness and love will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
The Carr family wishes to thank Alan R Core Funeral Home Inc. of Cheektowaga, New York, for their professional services and care in this difficult time.
