Patricia Newkirk Humes, born on December 22, 1960, in Duplin County, slipped away peacefully into the land of the free on December 23, 2025, in Watha, North Carolina. Patricia was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend, whose life was characterized by her unwavering Christian faith and her dedication to uplifting those around her.

She was the cherished daughter of Mattie Bannerman Newkirk and the loving wife of Mark Humes, whom she affectionately referred to as "Rabbit." Patricia devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, raising her children with love. She is survived by her sons, Nicholas Hall and Lason Humes; siblings, James Arnold Newkirk and Derrick Newkirk (Kristie) and a myriad of family and friends to cherish her memory.

Throughout her life, Patricia was known for her selflessness and generosity, often placing the needs of others above her own. Her commitment to service was evident in her active involvement in church work, where she found fulfillment in helping others. She had a remarkable gift for cooking, relishing the opportunity to prepare meals for family gatherings and larger crowds, believing that food was a way to bring people together and create joyful memories.

Funeral Service

Homegoing service will be held 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel located at 810 West Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC 28425. Interment will follow in the Watha Chapel Cemetery.

Viewing

Viewing for relatives and friends will be held during the hours of 4:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, Burgaw, NC.

As the glue of her family, Patricia was instrumental in nurturing close relationships among her loved ones, ensuring that connections remained strong and vibrant. She embraced every moment spent with family and friends and derived immense joy from the simple pleasures of life, such as shopping and discovering a good deal.
