Pastor Elder Geneva James, born March 9, 1946, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2026. She was a devoted servant of the Lord, whose unwavering faith and dedication to worship continued steadfastly even throughout her illness and while homebound.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Vander James. Her children include Terry "K" James and Vander C. James, along with her stepdaughter, Daphany Hill. Pastor James’ legacy of love extended to her grandchildren: Terrance K. James, Jamillia T. James, and Kyante' T. James. She also embraced her step-grandchildren, Bridgett L. Batts, Terrell Newkirk, Deidra Jackson, Delisea Nicholson, Andrea Jackson, and Kaleel Malloy. She is survived by her siblings, Mildred Sharpless and Warren H. Pickett. Additionally, her memory will be cherished by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who mourn her loss and celebrate her life.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at St. James United Holy Church, located at 5071 Burgaw Highway, Maple Hill, North Carolina. The interment will follow at Lee Cemetery in Maple Hill. A viewing for relatives and friends is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel.
In honor of Pastor Elder Geneva James’ life and legacy, attendees are invited to wear the colors pink and white, symbolizing the grace and purity she embodied. Her commitment to faith and family leaves an indelible imprint on all who knew her.
