Orlando E Rochelle, a steadfast patriot, skilled engineer, and a man of unwavering intellect, passed from this life on June 1, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on June 5, 1945, in Maple Hill, NC, Orlando lived a life marked by dedication not only to his country but to his family, his community, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Orlando answered the call of duty with honor, joining the United States Marines and proudly serving at bases stationed in California and Camp Lejeune. His commitment to our Corps forged a character built on discipline, courage, and loyalty values he carried with pride throughout his life.
Following his service, Orlando applied the same precision and ardor to his career as an engineer for a respected aviation company, contributing to the advancement of flight and technology. His professional life was a testament to his belief in progress and innovation.
Educated first at Webb Elementary School in his hometown of Maple Hill, he graduated from Georgetown High School in Jacksonville, NC, and pursued higher education at North Carolina A&T State University, later earning an Associate’s Degree in Communication in California. Orlando was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and a man deeply engaged in the world around him. His love for conversation and the exchange of ideas reflected a mind always alert and a spirit ever curious.
The family he leaves behind stands tall with pride. Survived by his siblings Dr. Lugenia Rochelle, Ricardo Rochelle (Marsha), Melvin Rochelle (Diana), Marion Rochelle, and Evelyn, widow of the late John A Rochelle. Orlando’s legacy is carried forward through his kin. He counted among his closest family special cousins Bernice Moore and Russell Holmes, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who stood by him steadfastly. A heartfelt salute goes to Aunt Carrie Mae Holmes Mooney, who raised Orlando and his siblings as her own, embodying the selflessness and strength that shaped Orlando’s own character.
Orlando’s parents, John and Ruby Rochelle, now stand watch from above, having paved the way for a son who answered the call to serve with distinction.
A graveside service will be held on June 13, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. at the Maple Hill Community Cemetery, located on Rockfish Lake Road in Maple Hill, NC 28425. This final formation will mark the close of a mission well executed and a life well lived.
In the traditions of proud Marines and honorable men, Orlando E Rochelle’s journey may have ended, but his spirit endures in the precision of the aircraft he helped engineer, in the minds he inspired, and in the hearts of those who loved him. Semper Fi, Orlando. You have earned your restful watch. We honor you. We remember you. You are forever part of our brotherhood.
