Mary Carr, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and cherished sister to all who knew her, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 10, 2026. Born on October 10, 1929, in Pender County, North Carolina, Mary lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Mary’s journey was marked by her remarkable spirit and an infectious sense of humor that endeared her to everyone around her. As a foster parent, she opened her heart and home to children in need, embodying the very essence of compassion and kindness. She attended the Fashion Institute in New York, where she cultivated her passion for style and design. A talented seamstress and entrepreneur, she owned and operated her own tailoring business, which she later relocated to North Carolina. Known for her impeccable taste, she was truly a fashionista whose sense of style left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her commitment to nurturing others extended into her professional life, where she devoted many years to working within the school systems of North Carolina. Mary was known for her incredible cooking, often hailed as the queen of the family kitchen, where she lovingly prepared meals that brought everyone together.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was heavily active within the Island Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Point, North Carolina, where she found community and solace. Her presence was a blessing to the church family, and her devotion a shining example of living with grace and purpose. Though Mary accepted God’s calling on her life with peace, she never lost her spunk, maintaining her vibrant and lively spirit until the end.
Mary is survived by her devoted children: Robert Lee Carr, Clarence Carr Jr., and Beverly Marie Carr, her special grandson Te'Shawn F. Tyrrell. Alongside treseaued grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
The family invites all who loved Mary to join in celebrating her extraordinary life. A viewing will be held on April 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM at Island Creek Missionary Baptist Church, located at 325 Harrison Creek Road, Rocky Point, NC 28457. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM to at the same location. Burial will take place at the church cemetery, where Mary will rest surrounded by the community she so dearly treasured.
Mary Carr’s legacy is one of boundless love, strength, and unwavering generosity. She lived each day with warmth and joy, making a difference in the lives she touched. Though she has departed, the light of her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
