Lynwood Edward Kerns Jr.

August 10, 1956 – July 20, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lynwood Edward Kerns Jr. on July 20, 2026, at the age of 69. While our hearts are saddened by his passing, we also choose to celebrate the life he lived, the memories he created, and the impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

Born in Virginia on August 10, 1956, Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army before building a long and respected career as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Field Manager. Through years of hard work, dedication, and leadership, he earned the respect of those who worked alongside him before retiring.

Anyone who knew Eddie knew his love for the open road. He found freedom riding his Harley-Davidson and enjoyed attending motorcycle rallies whenever he could. He had a special love for raising exotic birds, especially his beloved macaws, and found happiness in traveling, especially when sharing those adventures with his son. Whether exploring new places, caring for the birds he loved, or simply enjoying the journey, those moments created memories that will be treasured forever.

Ed leaves behind his beloved son, Zaxery Farrell-Kerns; his brother, Timmy Kerns; his sister, Carolyn Kerns; and his longtime friend, Tracy Elliott, with whom he shared more than 35 years of friendship and the privilege of raising their son together. Their enduring commitment to co-parenting reflected a shared love for Zaxery that remained an important part of both of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Kerns, and his nephew, Javon Kerns.

Eddie will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of adventure, the love he had for his son, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In accordance with Eddie's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held at this time.

At a future date, family and friends will gather in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina for a Celebration of Life, honoring one of Ed’s final wishes—to take one last ride through the mountains with his son. It will be a time to share stories, celebrate his life, and remember the many miles, memories, and adventures that defined him.

Until then, those who wish to honor Eddie's memory are encouraged to do so in their own way—perhaps by taking a scenic ride, enjoying the beauty of nature, or simply spending time with those they love.

Memorial Contributions

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to assist with Eddie's final expenses and to support his son, Zaxery, during this difficult time.

Tracy Elliott is assisting the family with arrangements and is accepting memorial contributions on the family's behalf.
