Lula Doris Newkirk, a beacon of inspiration and devotion, was born on January 28, 1936, and departed this mortal realm on April 16, 2026. She was the beloved wife to the late Avery L. Newkirk. Mrs. Newkirk lived a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and community—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mrs. Newkirk was the proud mother of three sons: Dennis Craig Newkirk, his wife Val, and Stephon Newkirk, his wife Samantha. Her sons were the pride and joy of her life, each a testament to her love and strength. Her loving family was further enriched by a myriad of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness and pride throughout her days.
She was also blessed with the companionship and camaraderie of her siblings Reverend Harvey Robinson, Joel Douglas Robinson, Pauline Henry, married to Ray; Minister Lorraine Underwood; and Vivian Robinson all who stood by her side through life’s varied seasons and shared in the bonds of family and faith that sustained Lula Doris through her years.
A consummate professional and vivacious spirit, Mrs. Newkirk was renowned for her skill and passion as a cosmetologist. Her clients did not merely find a stylist in her, but a lifelong friend, as her warm heart and genuine care cultivated enduring relationships. She was a social butterfly, known for her ebullient presence and her deep love of church services—her life was a testament to living for the Lord.
Her entrepreneurial spirit was remarkable, as she continually sought to surpass her own accomplishments and to better herself as a businesswoman. Lula Doris delighted in the outdoor world and nurtured a special affection for flowers, which mirrored her vibrant and nurturing soul. At the venerable age of 90, she retained her independence, continuing to drive until recent days, a testament to her resilient spirit and zest for life.
SERVICE DETAILS
The homegoing service celebrating Mrs. Newkirk’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 5090 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville, NC 28540. Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Bradley Robinson Family Cemetery on G-Shaw Road, Ivanhoe, NC.
