Services for Mr. Ledell Simpson are as follows:

Visitation: Saturday, June 22, 2024 during the hour of 11:00am to 11:30am 30 minutes prior to the service at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel 810 W Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC 28425.

Celebration of life : Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:30am at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel 810 W Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC 28425.

Interment will take place at a later date.

Ledell Simpson…

was born on October 19, 1932, to Mary S. McPherson Simpson and James H. Simpson in Wilmington North Carolina. Ledell was the sixth born of twelve children. He grew up in Rocky Point, North Carolina where he was educated, and graduated from Pender County Training School in 1950. Ledell joined the United States Army in June of 1953 and served during the Korean War conflict. He went on to serve in the United States Army Reserves from 1955 to 1963. In Civilian life he worked for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for many years. His true love and talent were in residential contracting. He built/remodeled several homes with precision well into retirement and without any formal training.

Ledell married Jessie Mae Stripling on May 13, 1957, in Arlington Virginia. From this union they had three children; Katherine Elizabeth Nichols, Ledell Stephen Simpson and Jacquelyne Simpson. The family resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until they moved to Holly Springs, North Carolina in 2000. They were married until Jessie's passing on December 10, 2010. Through DNA technology he was united with his oldest child, Parry Ann Brown Abraham, in 2018.

He leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Parry Ann Brown Abraham (Neville III) of Riverside, California, Katherine Elizabeth Nichols of Algarve, Portugal, Ledell Stephen Simpson (Denice) of Vienna, Virginia, and Jacquelyn Simpson-Clarke (Joel) of Holly Springs, North Carolina. Grand Children: Nicolle Montira Brown of Inglewood, California, Michelle Antoinette Brown of Lancaster, California, Jessica Helene Simpson (Matthew Woodruff) of Reston, Virginia, Alison Lee Simpson of Home, Pennsylvania, Sterling LaDell Simpson Johnson of Dusseldorf, Germany, Nicolas Taliaferro Abraham of LaMirada, California, and Katheryne Grace Simpson Clarke of Holly Springs, North Carolina. Great grandchildren: Shanelle Alethia Brown Beauman, Krystal Danyell Kriby, Krysten Nicolle Kirby, Symoni Michelle Kirby of Southern California, Nierah Michelle Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada and Oliver Percy Lee Simpson of Reston, Virginia. Great great grandchildren Ma'Rylah Symoné and Kasai Marquise Tucker of Lancaster, California. Siblings: Roy Lee Simpson of Vineland, New Jersey, Thelma Louise Nicholson and Margie Ree Simpson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Willie James Simpson (Judy) of Rocky Point, North Carolina, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ledell remained active and with a sharp wit until the very end. Though he had his health challenges, his passing was sudden on May 31, 2024. He has been reunited with his parents, James and Mary Simpson, grandson Kenneth Charles Brown, Jr., and siblings: Berthenia, James H., James E., Ernest T., Virginia L., Lester H., and Fredericka Simpson.
