Mr. James Phillip Wright, of the Lagoon Community, Kelly, NC peacefully drifted away into eternal rest on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at home surrounded by the love of his family.

Cookie, as he was affectionately called is survived by his children: Lee Helen McKoy, Agnes Mumford, Lorenzo McKoy(Priscilla) Bennie McKoy(Pamela), Waymond McKoy(Valeria), Mavis Harvey(James) and Machelle McCracken(Courtney); Siblings: Edith Johnson, Myrtle Johnson and a myriad of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends all who will miss him dearly

Celebration of life service will be held  1:00pm Friday. September 12, 2025 at Zion Chapel AME Church 118 Zion Chapel Drive Kelly, NC 28448.

Viewing for relatives and friends will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, during the hours of 5 - 7 P.M. at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel 810 West Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC 28425.

A man of quiet strength and deep faith, Phillip lived a life full of purpose and passion. He found joy in the simple things—cooking hearty meals for loved ones, casting a line into peaceful waters, tracking game through the woods, and worshipping faithfully at Zion Chapel A.M.E Church. His love for classic Western TV shows reflected his appreciation for timeless values: loyalty, honor, and grit.

Phillip will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and the stories he shared. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the lessons he quietly taught through example.
