James Oliver Carter
"Fishman"

James Oliver Carter, affectionately known as "Fishman," was born on February 9, 1942, in Riegelwood, North Carolina, to the late Alexander and Sarah Carter. He later moved to New Jersey with his beloved wife, Ethel J. Carter, where they raised a large and loving family.

A proud member of Pyramid #60 International Masons of Newark, James was known for his bold personality, sharp wit, and love of fishing, storytelling, and classic cars. An entrepreneur at heart, he owned several social clubs, a fish market, and a grocery store, all of which became community staples.

James is survived by his wife, Ethel; his children: Linda Hayes, Kimberley Coles, Lisa Roberson, Yvette Kearney, Jerome Carter, Lydell Carter, Shawn Carter, and Kecia Rasberry; his sister, Delphia Carter; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Public Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel.

Immediately Following committal rites will be rendered at the Hayes Family Cemetery of Atkinson, NC

His warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
