Mr. James Matthew Biggs , originally from Williamston, North Carolina, completed his sojourn through this life and joined the Heavenly Ancestors on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in Washington, DC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at The Chapel of Dunn Funeral Home - 810 W. Wilmington St. Burgaw, NC 28425. Interment will immediately follow in the St. John Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery located on Hwy. 53 in Maple Hill, North Carolina.
Viewing for family and friends will be 12:00Noon - 12:50p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at The Chapel of Dunn Funeral Home - 810 W. Wilmington St. Burgaw, NC 28425 prior to the Celebration of Life Service.

James Matthew Biggs (Jimmie) was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Benjamin Biggs & Bessie Biggs in Williamston, North Carolina on January 20, 1939. He departed this life on June 26, 2021. As a teenager, he moved to Washington, D.C. where he attended and graduated from Spingarn High School. Jimmie trained as an amateur boxer, under the tutelage of Mr. Henry Thomas, training at Finley's gym, in Washington, D.C. subsequently winning the D.C. Golden Gloves and fighting in Madison Square Garden. He was known in the gym as "Jimmie Biggs", an artful counterpuncher who could "catch you with either hand". He fought professionally as a Welter Weight.
Jimmie started his work as an entrepreneur at an early age. He won several 4-H contests in Williamston during his youth. He operated as an independent cab driver in Washington, D.C. He was a masterful poker player who invested his winnings and became a D.C. entrepreneur, owning several rental houses in nearly every area of the District of Columbia. He was known for the phrase, "if Biggs can't fix it, you should throw it away". He was a deeply spiritual person and an ordained deacon.
He met his beloved wife, Azzie L. Bannerman, deceased in 1997, in Washington D.C.
James Biggs is survived by his brother Mayo Biggs, two sons James Lawrence Biggs and Dr. Reginald Biggs, daughter-in-law, Fredricca Biggs, granddaughter Jamie Lauren Biggs, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jimmie had a daughter, the late Monique Biggs, deceased in 1985.
