Mr. James Austin "Hooks", 85, of Hampstead, departed this life on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Austin was born on March 12, 1928 in Paris, Kentucky to the late George Austin, Sr. and Lovie B. Floyd Austin. He was a graduate of William Grant High School. In 1947, he was honorably discharged from the Army and received the Army of Occupation Medal World War II With/Germany Clasp. He then moved to Canton, Ohio and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church with his wife Judith Austin, whom preceded him in death.

In 1999, he relocated to Hampstead, NC and joined William Love Grove Baptist Church.

A visitation for relatives and friends will be 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at Dunn Funeral Home. The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Williams Love Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the William Love Grove Cemetery.
