Horace Lee “Phat Albert” Kealon was born on July 25, 1958, in the warm embrace of Pender County, North Carolina, a place that would foster a spirit as lively as the seasons themselves. On August 9, 2026, surrounded by the familiarity and comfort of his own residence, Horace took his final journey, leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the Carolina pines.
To say Horace was well known and loved is to only glimpse the radiant heart that shone from within him each and every day. Everywhere he went, his presence was felt in full force, whether cracking a joke that would light up the room or simply greeting old friends in a way that made them feel seen and valued. His talent for drawing a crowd was unmatched, and the sound of laughter often trailed in his wake. A magnetic personality, Horace was a constant source of smiles, memories, and warmth.
He lived a life defined not by stillness, but by constant movement and rich purpose, always on the go, always seeking the next moment to leave his mark. Horace’s determined spirit and tireless energy propelled him into a career where courage and compassion ran hand in hand. As a correctional officer for the State of New York, Horace served with an integrity that did not go unnoticed. His dedicated years culminated in retirement, honored by recognition from the very highest office with a reward from the Governor of New York, one of his proudest achievements. It was not simply the title, but the respect he earned and the impact he made among colleagues and those entrusted to his care, which formed the true badge of honor he wore.
Horace’s life stretched beyond duty; it spilled into every word, every gathering, and each place he called home. If you knew Horace, you knew movement; you knew the persistent heartbeat of a man whose zest carried through every day. There was never an idle afternoon in his company, only the joy of being swept up in his undeniable verve for all that life had to offer.
Now, Horace’s journey draws to a close, but his story carries on in the hearts he once made lighter and the communities made brighter by his laughter and dedication. Friends, neighbors, and all who shared in his orbit are invited to remember and celebrate Horace Lee Kealon’s life. Visitation will take place on August 14, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., both held at St. James A.M.E. Church, 1630 Over Lyon Road, Kelly, NC 28448.
Afterwards, Horace will find rest in the Kealon Beatty Family Cemetery, a lasting testament to his legacy and the love that anchored him throughout his remarkable life.
As those who knew him gather together, it is not just the sorrow of absence that endures, but a gratitude for the way Horace filled each day, with energy, humor, strength, and love.
