Mrs. Hazel B. Johnson, 87, of Riegelwood, NC, slipped away peacefully into the land of the free on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Karen Johnson, Althea Johnson-Williams, Jeffrey Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Angela Johnson. She also leaves behind a host of siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

A Homegoing Celebration honoring her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church 1437 East Arcadia Road Riegelwood, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A public viewing for relatives and friends will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025, during the hours of 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, located at 810 West Wilmington Street, Burgaw, NC 28425.

Hazel was a strong, witty, and no-nonsense woman who lived life on her own terms. She was known for telling the truth as she saw it—whether or not it was what you wanted to hear. Her fierce love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and she would have moved mountains to protect and support them.

Her legacy of honesty, strength, and unwavering love will live on in all who knew her.

The family will receive guest at the home of her daughter Karen Johnson 5328 General Howe Highway Riegelwood, NC 28456 beginning Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
