Life Story
Geraldine Moore Brown, age 89, was born September 2, 1934, to the late Marcus and Mabel Pigford Moore. In the quiet calm of the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 19, 2023, our loved one answered the Master's call at the Laurels of Pender in Burgaw, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson and three sisters.
Geraldine's early education began in a one-room building in the Piney Woods Road Community and continued on to C.F. Pope High School, Burgaw, NC, where she graduated in 1951.
At an early age, she joined Lakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a consistent and faithful member until her health began to fail. She served as Chairwoman of the Deaconess Board; Sunday School Secretary; Daughters of Zion and Senior Choir Member. She loved the Lord and loved going to church to fellowship, hear the Word of God and listen to good singing, this was her life!
In 1953, she met and married George E. Brown of Harrisonburg, VA and to this union four children were born. She traveled with her Air Force husband and lived in Virginia and Florida before relocating back to North Carolina.
She was employed and retired as the Kitchen Manager for West Pender Head Start Center for 20+ years. She attended many classes to enhance her career and worked hard to care for her family. After retiring, she completed Home Health Care courses and worked privately for a few more years before retiring again and traveling the globe.
She was a Lady of Leisure and always said "grass don't grow on a busy street." She spent several months in Germany with her daughter and son-in-law. She traveled with Pender Adult Center on cruises to the Isles of Jamaica, Alaska, Mexico and the Bahamas. She's taken bus tours to New York, Washington, DC, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Maine, Connecticut, Washington State, Canada and others.
She was a pillar in the community and never met a stranger. There was nothing she wouldn't do for you and was always available when you needed her. She thanked and praised God for his Goodness and Mercy daily and was a firm believer in treating everyone with love and kindness.
