Mrs. Dorothy Newkirk, 91, of Willard, departed this earthly life Friday, May 10, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Newkirk was born on August 4, 1921 in Pender County to the late Ammie Herring and Annie Pigford Herring. She attended Newkirk Elementary School in Willard, NC. She was a member of Newkirk Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her death. She served as the President of the Senior Choir, President of the Senior and Junior Missionary Circle, President of the Daughter's of Zion and a Mother of the Church. She was employed in the Pender County School System as the manager of the Willard Elementary school cafeteria for twenty years, until her retirement.

A visitation for relatives and friends will be 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Dunn Funeral Home. The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Middle District Baptist Association Headquarters, Hwy 53, Burgaw. Interment will be at the Herring Cemetery, Willard. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in her honor, to the Daughters' of Zion of Newkirk's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Willard, NC.
