Matthew Spearman
October 26, 1939 – January 12, 2022
Deacon Samuel Matthew Spearman, affectionately known as "Deacon Sam" age, 82, of Teachey, NC, peacefully laid down the burdens of this world and gained eternity on January 11, 2022. He heard the Master's call and answered. He is the husband of Mrs. Eliza Rogers Spearman.
A Homegoing Celebration will take place at 2:00p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Dunn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Chapel 810 West Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC. Interment will immediately follow in the Burton Cemetery, Wallace, NC.
ALL VIEWING for relatives and friends will be 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at First Baptist Church - 106 Stokestown Road Wallace, NC 28466. There will not be any viewing at the Homegoing Celebration.
In Lieu of flowers the family is asking that you make donations directly to his wife, Mrs. Eliza Spearman(you can also cash app her daughter at $shirleydelva and it will be forwarded to Mrs. Spearman) and to First Baptist Church.
Deacon Spearman was the youngest child born to Rodolph Dudley Spearman and Pearl Virginia Cromartie Spearman, on October 26, 1939.
From Deep Bottom (Sloan, NC), Sam relocated to NY, NJ and CT before retiring in 1997, to his beloved NC after 27 years at Pitney Bowes (Stamford, CT).
At First Baptist Church Deep Bottom, he was an active, respected church member and Deacon, led by Rev. Acie Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his much-loved family members:
Wife: Eliza Spearman.
Sons: Myron Spearman (Patricia), Curtis Rogers (Michele).
Daughters: Renee Smith (John), Valerie Spearman, Shirley Delva (Rony), Karen Spearman.
He is pre-deceased by one son, Noland Spearman, brothers Emmanuel and Curtis Spearman and sister Lenoir Herring.
He leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
His favorite scripture was 2 nd Chronicles 7:14. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
