With profound sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of David Jerod Miller, who departed this life on June 25, 2026, in Cleveland, Tennessee at the age of 51.

David was born on July 16, 1974, at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, North Carolina, to the late Oscar “James” Miller Jr. and Patricia Anne Miller. From his earliest days, David embodied strength, determination, and an unyielding spirit. These qualities would guide him throughout his life, enabling him to face life’s challenges head-on with remarkable resilience.

David’s early years were rooted in Texas, where he received his primary and secondary education. Demonstrating his commitment to personal growth and achievement, he later earned his General Educational Development (G.E.D.) diploma from James Sprunt Community College. Never one to shy away from hard work or new opportunities, David continued his educational journey by attending Miller-Motte College, proudly obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). His work ethic and drive were a testament to the pride he took in whatever he set out to do.

Those who knew David best remember him as a man who valued his freedom. He cherished the open roads, the possibility of new adventures, and the chance to experience life’s many wonders. Though reserved by nature and often keeping to himself, David’s true friends and family were acquainted with his generous heart, quiet kindness, and the deep well of love he kept for those he held dear. His loyalty was unwavering, and earning his trust meant gaining a steadfast friend whose compassion left a lasting mark.

David now joins his father, Oscar “James” Miller Jr., and his beloved son, Marquis Miller, who preceded him in death.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Patricia Miller; his devoted daughter, Shanell Burns; and his treasured grandchildren, Sabrina Burns-Jackson, Karter Phillips, and Tavares Phillips. David also leaves behind his brothers Ricky Thompson, Ortiz Samuel, James Miller, Kenneth Mathis, Jason Judge, Bobby Holmes, James Pickett, and Christopher Codie; and his sisters, Stephanie Hayes and Nicy Ward. His special friend, Donielle Scales, shared in his journey, as did a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

The family extends a special recognition and heartfelt appreciation to his Aunt Nancy James and longtime friend Jeffrey Lee, whose love, support, and enduring presence were beacons of comfort throughout David’s life.

David’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His determination, resilience, and quiet compassion will never be forgotten. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain a guiding light for years to come.
