Mr. Daniel Webster Carr, Jr. 82 of the Newton's Cross Road Community, Willard was dispatched to Glory on Saturday, December 23, 2023 to transport his final load to Calvary. Daniel was affectionately known to many as D.J. Carr and was the Owner and Operator of D.W. Carr, Jr. & Sons Trucking, LLC.
Celebration of Life service will take place 1:00pm Friday, December 29, 2023 at The Middle District Baptist Association 1821 NC highway 53, Burgaw, NC 28425. Interment will follow in the Roseville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Willard.
Viewing for relatives and friends will be held 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel 810 West Wilmington Street Burgaw, NC 28425.
Daniel's Life Legacy
Daniel Webster Carr Jr., was born on December 21,1941, in Sampson County, North Carolina, to the late Daniel Webster Carr Sr. and Eula Newton Carr. As the eldest of four children, Daniel's life was characterized by his deep faith, having been an active member and Deacon at Roseville Missionary Baptist Church, and later at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he fellowshipped at both churches .
A proud alumnus of Bland High School, Class of 1957, Daniel ventured to Washington DC post-graduation. His commitment to his country was evident as he served three years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he pursued a career in brick masonry and concrete construction, a testament to his craftsmanship and work ethic. His love for farming, instilled in him during his early years working alongside his father on the farm, remained a constant passion throughout his life.
Daniel's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in 1978 when he established Carr Trucking, which later evolved into D.W. Carr and Sons Trucking. His zest for life extended to his love for racing, actively participating in races in the 1960s and 1970s, and co-owning Harrells Raceway for ten years in the late 1980s. His dedication to his community was further demonstrated through his service, as he served two terms on the Duplin County Advisory Board at BB&T. Additionally, for more than 30 years, he has been a long-standing member of the Four County Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors' nominating committee.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Daniel Webster Carr and Eula Newton Carr, and his sister, Dorothy Mae Johnson. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children Daniel Carr III (Kim) of Durham, NC, Alesia Boney of Durham, NC, John Carr (Kristina) of Atlantic City, NC, Derrick Carr of Clinton, NC, and Nakosha Manuel of Harrells, NC; siblings Barbara Graham of Greensboro, NC, John T. Carr (Linda) of Wilmington, NC, and Allopez Carr of Greensboro; his former spouse, Juanita Carr; special friend, Elizabeth Corbett; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Daniel's legacy is one of unwavering devotion to his family, community, and the many lives he enriched. He will be deeply mourned and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
