Mrs. Carrie Mae Sharpless Newkirk, 90, of the Horsebranch Road Community,Ivanhoe, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 in Charlotte.

Mrs. Newkirk was born on February 15, 1923 in Duplin County to the late John William and Erie Catherine Kenan Sharpless.

The funeral will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Middle District Missionary Baptist Headquarters, Burgaw. Burial will be in the Newkirk Family cemetery. Viewing will be 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Lakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Atkinson.
