Annie Bell Smith, lovingly known as Candy, passed away on September 14, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was born on December 29, 1943, in Pender County, North Carolina.

Mrs. Smith will be remembered as a woman who was blunt and loving all at the same time, a combination that made her presence unforgettable to those who knew her best. She carried herself with honesty, warmth, and a deep devotion to the people she loved.

Throughout her life, Annie Bell Smith served her community as a substitute teacher, offering her time and care in the classroom. Beyond her work, she found joy in cooking, tending her flowers, and gardening, pursuits that reflected both her nurturing spirit and her appreciation for beauty and home. She also treasured traveling with the Lay AME Organization and served as American Episcopal Treasurer, commitments that spoke to her faith, service, and connection to others.

Among the blessings of her life, one of her proudest accomplishments was loving her children and grandchildren. That love stood at the center of who she was and remains a lasting part of her legacy.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 810 W Wilmington St, Burgaw, NC 28425. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at New Pike Creek A.M.E. Church, 7178 Stag Park Road, Burgaw, NC 28425.
